[Skip Intro]
How many times have you clicked [Skip Intro]? If a picture is worth a thousand words, why then, is a moving picture many times worth less? Why do "flashy" intros (no pun intended) do more to annoy site visitors than to inform them? The answer is simple; a moving picture is only worth more if it is:
- Well designed with impeccable timing, right-on graphics, and well-written copy
- Communicates small amounts of important and focused information
- Visual and shows processes and presents information in a controlled manner
At Designforce, we'll help you understand when it makes sense to use Flash to achieve your goals and when it doesn't.
For providing standard product and corporate information, Flash isn't the best choice. First, Flash takes away control. Users want to be able to scroll through information, find the bits that mean something to them and click. Second, sites built entirely in Flash lack the content needed for proper search engine recognition. You simply need to have more words available for the spiders to index you and others to find you.
That being said, we still love Flash. For:
- Advertising
- Website interface design, where applicable
- Special announcements
- Special programs such as a game or quiz, encapsulated in its own mini-site
- Brief animated intros
- Very cool rollover buttons
- Small website animations
